As part of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Vatican-Japan diplomatic relations organized by the Embassy of Japan in the Vatican, Kiyokawa will introduce Kintsugi in three cities in Vatican Italy from November 21 (Monday) to 25 (Friday), 2022.
江戸の職人技術と自然素材のみで修復するサスティナブルな金継ぎ
清川は50年近く社寺仏閣や木像などの文化財の修復の第一線に身を置き、 江戸時代に確立した漆芸修復の技法を今に伝える数少ない職人の1人です。
そんな清川は、 2015年から広く一般に伝統技法を伝えるために室町時代の茶の湯文化の中で誕生した漆芸修復の１つである「金継ぎ」にシフトし、 現在は京都・東京で自然素材のみを使用する古典的な金継ぎを教える教室兼工房を構えています。
一方、 金継ぎは破損した器に新しい美意識や価値を持たせるだけでなく、 大切な器をまた日常に戻すことのできるそのサステナビリティが注目され、 日本国内だけでなくアジア・欧米各国で今ブームが巻き起こっています。
Kiyokawa is one of the few craftsmen who have passed down the techniques of lacquer restoration established in the Edo period to the present day.
In 2015, Kiyokawa shifted his focus to kintsugi, one of the traditional techniques of lacquer art restoration, in order to share the technique with the general public, and now has classes and workshops in Kyoto and Tokyo where he teaches classical kintsugi.
Kintsugi not only brings a new sense of beauty and value to damaged vessels, but is also attracting attention for its sustainability and ability to bring important vessels back to daily life.
バチカン・イタリア３都市で行われる金継ぎデモンストレーション＆講演
今回のイベントは、 11月21日（月）のベネディクト16世ホール（バチカン市国）で開催する他、 翌22日（火）はローマ日本文化会館（イタリア）、 24日（木）・25日（金）にはベネチア東洋美術館（イタリア）でもデモンストレーションと講演を予定しております。
デモンストレーションでは、 金継ぎのプロセスを清川本人による実演と映像を交えてご紹介する他、 金継ぎに欠かせない日本の漆、 その歴史と特徴や、 金継ぎの奥深い魅力について講演いたします。
In the demonstration, Kiyokawa will introduce the process of kintsugi with his own demonstration and video. He will also give a lecture on Japanese lacquer, which is essential for kintsugi, its history and characteristics, and the profound appeal of kintsugi.
